If you are looking for new media services it can be a very confusing and somewhat scary proposition when you are a small business and learn the costs involved in promoting your business.  Everyone wants to find the magic bullet that catapults them into success.  The problem is that magic bullets are extremely few and far between.  It’s like catching lighting in a bottle.  But without proper marketing and promotion if you don’t have a built-in supply of work for your business you are competing with everyone else in your industry for attention.  In today’s market that means that you could be going up against corporate giants with marketing budgets that are in the millions of dollars.  How do you compete against that?

The first place you start is with a quality website.  There is a lot more that goes into a site now than just cool graphics.  The most important things is your content.  Google with tell you “Content is King”.  If you have good, quality content they will rank you higher than your competitors.  That is a key part of SEO.  What is actually in your site.

I’ve been building websites since in late 90’s when everything was hand coded.  I advanced on to the Adobe Workflow which used to consist of Photoshop then GoLive.  When Adobe bought out Macromedia and Dreamweaver I made the switch with them.  And eventually added FLASH to my list of skills.

But about 10 years ago I switched to the Content Management System (CMS) Joomla and have not looked back. The power and flexibility that CMSes offer over HTML websites is just leagues ahead.  In fact, if you want to make an HTML website do anything useful you need to attach it to a database.  CMSes are built on databases so you have remarkable power from day one.  Then, about 3 years ago the buzz hit about WordPress and I learned to develop in that as well.

But all of this started when I formed KNL back in the late 90’s.  Back then my job was to learn the new industry back then of digital video production and digital photography.  I’ve been on the cutting edge of the industry and even won awards for my producing and camera work.

So with me you get a jack-of-all-trades in new media.  Not only do I know the new media industry but I got my start in the arena when I was a service manager in a computer shop.  So I can even build systems and install small business networks.  I know this industry because I live it.
